These systems require and support the public grid. Enerfx Solutions design these systems for two main areas, maximum demand shaving and peak tariff shifting/energy arbitrage. The systems can save money by minimising maximum demand costs as well as shifting energy costs from peak rates to standard or even off-peak rates.

These Systems are designed to support the utility grid using stored battery power. An EMS (Energy Management System) is used to manage the power being supplied to the loads. This power is either supplied by the grid or by the batteries, depending on certain preset criteria.

Maximum Demand Shaving is achieved by programming the EMS to cap the consumer’s demand that is supplied by the utility grid. Any demand in excess of the capped kVA value is supplied by the inverters and batteries. The batteries are recharged when the demand has dropped below the capped value. This allows the customer to fix their maximum demand costs to a known value which in turn offers demand cost savings.

Peak Tariff Shaving/Energy Arbitrage is done by programming the EMS to use stored battery power in peak tariff times thereby reducing the need to be purchasing expensive grid energy. The batteries can be recharged in standard or even off-peak times when the power is at a cheaper rate. Alternatively, the batteries can also be charged through solar power when available.
